I took this photograph on a rare day when I told myself I was not going to take any photographs. It was supposed to be my day to observe and just take things in without a camera. I was walking on the beach in California and saw her lying there alone but not lonely. I saw this angle in my mind before the lens and ended up taking one of my favorite photographs of the year

Sometimes I take a photograph and don’t realize/see the beauty for months. This is a photograph shot on film in my old studio in Brooklyn. The more I look at this picture the more I am thankful that I pressed the button on the camera just when I was supposed to. The lens becomes filled with sunlight + yellow

I took this polaroid while at the beach with my friend in New Jersey. We were shooting while taking a break from surfing. She was changing clothes and I yelled “don’t move”. It reminds me of Brooke Shields in “The Blue Lagoon” Carefree, beautiful and natural. She is also in the photo “Last Summer” which was taken on the same day.

I took this image in the summer of 2010 in New Jersey while surfing with a friend . I feel like I almost captured the heat within the day. Not sure where the purple came from but I am happy it is there. Muted perfectly. May be one of my favorite pics, though that changes hourly. Sitting inside purple with her surfboard resting in between sets. Love this image next to “purple portugal fog” in the surfing category.

Somehow the distance seems to bring them closer. The white space and combination of clouds/ocean make this image serene and whimsical. Shot in Virginia Beach at a surf contest in May 2011. This image was photographed on film and is printed on water color paper.

I took this image a few years ago in Long Beach,NY. Aside from the girl being beautiful I love the splash and the edges of this image. This Polaroid of a dancer was taken in a friends apartment in Brooklyn. What’s special about this photo is that is was not posed. I went into the other room to get film and I came back and saw a beautiful moment. She was stretching and one strand of hair had fallen down her back. I love how delicate and sensual the image is. Perfect rich browns with blue edges.

I took this polaroid on a friends rooftop in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Many people have suggested over the years that I photograph the Brooklyn Bridge. though knowing it would be popular, did not want to be another photographer photographing the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge just happened to be in the background, as trees are in the background on other polaroids. Her legs in white tights…..seem to flow with the curve of the bridge. My favorite part of the photograph is her foot. It’s amazing how just a curled foot says “I’m a dancer”

The New York skyline, a perfect sky and my new favorite silhouette. My favorite part of the Polaroid is the magical swirl going across her face. It seems like a clouds or some of the sky’s blueness came into the room.

This Polaroid transfer was taken a few years ago about an hour outside of NYC. It was probably 100 degrees or more in the middle of summer. All of the records started to melt. I think I took 20-30 Polaroids of this scene before I got a “good” one. In reality I may have chosen one of the first few that I took as the final. The image defines summer to me. A beautiful girl lying in the grass and listening to music with headphones.

I took this image about 4 summers ago, an hour upstate of NY. It was taken on the dirt road in front of a renovated barn I was renting. I figured if I was going to have no $ I might as well live in beauty. The day was 100 degrees and all of the records started to melt/droop over the wagon. It is a timeless image. Perfect for the music lover,dj, record collector, musician or little red wagon lover.

This is part of my girl with records series. This was the initial Polaroid I dreamed of taking that led into the other images. If I wasn’t the person who took the photograph I would swear it was from the 70′s. Perfect lips,hair and thigh highs. Sexy,beautiful and playful. The records pealed beautifully showing off the charm of the Polaroid transfer process.

I took this Polaroid with $225 of gumballs. I bought the gumballs with an unemployment check. Definitely a fun shoot. There was a little drip in the bathtub. As the shoot progressed the colors from the gumballs started to get everywhere. I remember having gumballs rolling around under my gas pedal in my car for months after.

One of my first nights in my new empty apartment (Brooklyn). A spur of the moment photo shoot. Lit by candles, a spinning dancer and a beautiful shade of red. Beautiful with a hint of sexiness. I love the way her tutu got washed out and the white from the edge of the image leading up to her. It looks like she flew into the room.

I took this Polaroid in Boulder Colorado. It was not posed. I was at one end of the room and she was at the other. I yelled “don’t move” and grabbed my camera. Outside there is snow piled up on the ground and the chair. The colors of the stained glass hold on beautifully and subtle. I love the little pieces of hair that fall through her fingers.

a rainbow of skateboards in a pile and awesome knee highs. this photograph was a breaking point for me, where I realized that I don’t care if I have made “art”.
